Mills Ormiston Rubber Pty Ltd  - MOR Industries –  as a rubber products supplier fluoroelastomers (FKM), like Viton Rubber, which is the most suitable rubber for applications in contact with petroleum-based fluids.


FKMs all contain vinylidene fluoride as a monomer. DuPont developed Viton® (FMK) originally. Compared with neoprene or nitrile rubber, fluoroelastomers are more expensive partly because they provide additional heat and chemical resistance. There are different types of FKM based on their chemical composition, their fluorine content, or their crosslinking mechanism.


In the mid-1950s, Viton® or fluorocarbon elastomers were introduced. Their importance in the seal industry has grown since then. The fluorocarbon rubber is the most significant single elastomer development in the recent past because it performs well under a wide range of chemicals, has a high temperature range, and is well compressible.


Temperature range for Viton is -29 to +204 degrees C and can be resist until 316 degrees C for short periods of time.


This high-performance material is useful for aircraft, automobiles, scientific instruments, and other mechanical devices requiring maximum resistance to elevated temperature and a wide range of functional fluids. Their use is widespread in diffusion pumps on vacuum systems and on vacuum flanges on mass spectrometers and electron microscopes.

Viton® (FKM) are recommended for:


  • Petroleum oils. Di-ester base lubricants (MIL-L-7808, MIL-L-6085).

  • Silicate ester base lubricants (MLO 8200, MLO 8515, OS-45.)

  • Silicone fluids and greases.

  • Halogenated hydrocarbons (carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene).

  • Selected phosphate ester fluids. Acids.

FKM is not recommended for:


  • Ketones (MEK, acetone). Skydrol fluids.

  • Amines (UDMH), anhydrous ammonia.

  • Low molecular weight esters and ethers.

  • Hot hydrofluoric or chlorosulfonic acids.
